The final of the Grand Prix Hassan II saw clay court specialist Federico Delbonis take on Borna Coric of Croatia. It was the Argentine who took home the trophy winning 6-2, 6-4. The rising star will have to wait even longer to capture his maiden ATP title.
Delbonis takes opener
In his opening game, Federico Delbonis was pushed to deuce by Coric, but managed to hold. Despite losing the opening point of his game, the 19-year old had no problems in holding for 1-1. Borna Coric looked to be up to the task in the early stages, but Delbonis' consistency from the baseline gave the Croat little margin for error. In the fourth game, Delbonis broke the Croat and started to take control of the set. Borna Coric had to save three breaks points in the sixth game as the Argentine piled the pressure on the youngster.
In the following game, Coric had his chance to break the Delbonis serve. However, strong play from Delbonis denied the world number 48 from getting back into the match. With Borna Coric serving to stay in the set, the 25-year-old found himself with set point at advantage. He took his chance on his first set point and won the opening set in 44 minutes and had half an eye on the trophy.
Late break seals title for Delbonis
Having lost the first set, Borna Coric was looking to get back on level terms and the second started with two holds of serve. Both players were holding there own, not giving their opponents a sniff, although Delbonis was being pushed by Coric. The Argentine faced two break points in the ninth game at 15-40 and fought hard to stop Coric from getting ahead in the set.
In the following game, Delbonis raced away to a 40-15 lead and clinched the Marrakech title winning 10 out of the last 13 points. Borna Coric hit a shot past the baseline match point down. This was the second title for the man from Azul, Argentina, while Coric, in his second final failed to win his first title on the ATP Tour. The wait goes on. Federico Delbonis saved two out of two break points and needed only the one to break, while Coric didn't save any and couldn't convert any of his two.
