Garbiñe Muguruza, world number three, has her sights set on achieving success at next month's Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro - especially considering Spain haven't had much to shout about on the international tennis front since Rafael Nadal's years of excellence on the ATP tour.

Muguruza, who won her maiden Grand Slam at Roland Garros in June, failed to retain her finalist points at Wimbledon last month and as a result, dropped a place into third in the WTA rankings as Angelique Kerber - who was excellent throughout the tournament and finished runner-up in a high-quality final against Serena Williams, leapfrogged her.

Muguruza's determined to achieve success in Rio

As quoted by tennisworldusa, the 23-year-old publicly stated her desire for a medal at the summer games - in a competition where a lot of the top professionals have decided against competing due to fears over the Zika virus in Brazil.

With Carla Suarez Navarro the other main threat in the women's draw, Spain have a good opportunity to get in amongst the medals next month - with the likes of David Ferrer, Roberto Bautista-Agut and the aforementioned Nadal all set to compete. That in itself will be a major boost, as they've got strength in depth across both men and women's categories.

Physically demanding schedule isn't something to complain about

Having withdrawn from participating in this week's Rogers Cup, she understands how the schedule of tennis tournaments can often be physically draining and have an impact on levels of consistency - but said they [the players] "do not complain", especially as they're used to the intensity and considering the Olympic Games is held once every four years, there's an added incentive to prepare adequately ahead of the competition.
