Déjà vu. That’s what the WWE universe felt when the first ever “Fast lane” pay-per-view drew to a close. A triumphant Roman Reigns stood tall pointing to the Wrestlemania sign and made it clear to the world: He’s here to stay.

The road to Wrestlemania is all about creating storylines that culminate into a dashing final event at the wrestling equivalent of the superbowl. If that’s the case, the concept of fast lane is a win-win for everyone. And no doubt, the entertainment value of this pay-per-view made for happy reading. Fans were treated to a brother - brother confrontation and a dream face-off between the stalwarts of WWE and WCW that makes for a mouthwatering clash at the grandest stage of them all. WWE Fast lane ladies and gentlemen had all the makings of a blockbuster.

Let’s start with the pre-show then as the panel kicked us off and a special Miz TV with guest host Paul Heyman discussed the possibility of a Lesnar - Bryan/Reigns main event. Of course the advocate played down the chances of the opponent against his “beast” and made it clear that the championship wasn’t going to change hands. Perhaps my only issue with this would be the utilization of Miz and Mizdow on a pay-per-view. Those two need to be booked in a match on the main card and not just host a show for attention. Miz and Mizdow= great money. No doubt this would make for an interesting clash at Wrestlemania if WWE go ahead with it.

To the main card then. And an interesting booking saw a six man tag starring the authority take on Rowan, Ziggler and Ryback. If you saw how this match ended, you knew exactly why it was made. An amazing moment saw Randy Orton return and get himself some of the authority after a fairly long off caused thanks to the authority. Orton cleaned house and made his intentions clear. He wants a piece of Seth Rollins.  A brilliant booking in my mind, as the crowd chanted for more. Such an ovation, that we almost forgot that the team of Rollins, Big Show and Kane picked up the win.

Let’s stick with tag teams then. Tyson Kidd and Cesaro. Enough said. These two have impressed ever since they showed up in goofy costumes as a part of the exotic express. Brilliant technical ability meets raw strength in this partnership. Let’s not forget the importance of character as Kidd has proven, being an incredible heel and getting heat and love at the same time. A recipe for victory if you ask me, and WWE didn’t disappoint. The Usos are a tough nut to crack but Kidd and Cesaro put in a workman like performance to pick up the win and more importantly, pick up their first ever tag team titles as a pair. A push perhaps at the right time. Well played WWE, very well played.

From teams that get along, to ones that well…not quite? For weeks, Goldust and Stardust have had issues that reached its boiling point last week on raw. A clash was made for fast lane with daddy Dusty involved too. A great booking again, made around the stardust/cody alter ego that’s gonna have heads twirling. Goldust sure did his part in this one, picking up a win without actually hurting his brother too much. A jealous younger brother wasn’t too pleased and attacked Goldust backstage in front of their dad. Wrestlemania better watch out. A sibling rivalry might become the main attraction at the showcase of the immortals. One question, who’s gonna show up? Stardust or Cody?

A match that should never have happened. Let me just give you a moment to think about this. The late 90s were all about the Monday night wars that redefined wrestling for the world. And if it weren’t for two particular loyal employees, this war probably wouldn’t have been half as successful. So what happens when animosity that’s 13 years in the making meets head to head in the center of the ring? Tension perhaps the easiest way to put it. Sting accepted Triple H’s challenge for a fast lane faceoff a couple of weeks ago on raw and the manner of the acceptance sure put the leader of the authority in a sticky situation. Some may call him scared, a Triple H in denial showed up at fast lane in an all business mood. Sting came out and the crowd held its breath. Triple H cut a decent promo about their parallel journeys and offered a truce where sting could leave without being harmed…yeah right. A cheap shot from the COO brought sting to the ground but when Triple H brought the sledgehammer to the ring, Sting replied with his very own baseball bat that put the crowd into delirium. If that wasn’t enough, the painted vigilante pointed to the Wrestlemania sign and put all doubts to rest. We will see the dream match at Wrestlemania. What remains to be seen is, how is the build up gonna be? Let’s hope its as good as this one.

Speaking of legends, the sound of a gong and a familiar dark sight greeted the world as it seemed like the deadman was making his return. But was he? Something wasn’t right, and when a smiling Bray Wyatt appeared out of a casket, Memphis erupted into chatter. A great move again, which put to rest the questions regarding a Wyatt-taker feud at mania. Another brilliant promo from Wyatt has set it up. Will the Phenom respond? Stay tuned to find out.

Here’s one thing we’ve found out over the past few months. Dean Ambrose is insane. He zip tied and ultimately “coerced” Bad news Barrett into a title match at fast lane and the eccentric one put on a heck of a fight against the brawler from Preston. A disqualification was probably a weird way to end the match, but Ambrose walking out with belt? Classic WWE. Good fuel for the mentally unstable character of Ambrose. Let’s see where this feud goes. Promises to be a good one.

The divas title was up for grabs when Paige met Nikki Bella for the championship. We saw a decent build-up for this match too with the Bellas bullying Paige on a number of occasions to get her flustered. Some might say the divas division needs change, but Nikki Bella proved why she is the big dog and the woman to beat as she put the anti-diva away and retained her title.

We’ve often heard the term “double main event” used by WWE and Rusev - Cena qualifies in this category. Personally, I love the push the Russian is getting. Taking down Cena at a pay-per-view? That’s big. Making him pass out? Even bigger. It was a US title match but didn’t really feel like one. A dominant Rusev controlled this one and made his more than capable opponent ultimately pass out to the accolade following some dirty tactics. Puts things in perspective. Rusev - Cena at mania? Most probably we’ll see it. And I hope Rusev gets put over. Not because we’ve seen enough of Cena, but because it would firmly put the undefeated Russian in the main event picture and improve his character to perhaps the level of an Iron Sheikh all those years ago. Till then, we can only wait in anticipation.

From a pretend main event, to THE main event of the evening. Reigns - Bryan to see who meets Lesnar at mania for the title. The YES chants have perhaps echoed louder than the “believe that” ones but no doubt that WWE wanted us to see this as an equal footing clash. A classic match where wrestling - power was the order of the day and you could see that midway through the match the crowd was gravitating towards the bearded gladiator. A fearless Bryan seemed on course to book a place in the Wrestlemania main event, when a spear took him down and allowed Reigns to pick up the win and end an emotional ride marred by doubt. You could see fans didn’t take out too kindly but well, ACCEPT THAT? Reigns is going to mania, and though he may have his haters, he has the backing of the company to make it big and that is no doubt going to propel him to bigger and better things. You better BELIEVE THAT.

All in all, an entertaining event to say the least. And for those watching for free on the network, definitely an incentive to sign up and watch Wrestlemania and all the wrestling content available. This has set up Wrestlemania in the best possible way and a wrestling fan could hardly ask for more. The road to wrestlemania sure has become treacherous, who’ll come out on top? And who’ll bite the dust? Only time will tell…
