Today was the day that we found out who was on the cover of WWE 2k16 coming out in October, it was reported to be showed at Raw. WWE gave us a little spoiler today posting, that Stone Cold Steve Austin is going to be the cover guy in WWE 2k16.
During his career Stone Cold has been six time WWF Champion, two time WWF Intercontinental Champion, and four time WWF Tag Team champion. Making him the fifth Triple Crown winner in company history. He won three royal rumbles in 1997, 1998 and 2001 making him the only person to win three rumble matches. He has also headlined three WrestleMania’s.
Stone Cold was known for being the guy that would stand up to authority every single time. He loved to have fun he always had a great connection with the fans. They loved him for his mic skills and for everything he did in the ring. He has great wrestling skills, sadly he was forced to retire in 2003 after he suffered a neck injury.
In my eyes I was actually shocked that it was Austin that they picked, everyone was expecting someone like Brock Lesnar, Roman Reigns, and Seth Rollins. But nobody expected Stone Cold; it was a surprising move by the company putting a legend on the cover. Who knows how the people will handle this move.
We can tell there are already going to be a lot of hate on the company, for putting a former superstar. This is the third time in less than five years that WWE has put a former WWE superstar or part time WWE superstar on the cover, with The Rock going on the cover of 2k14 two years ago and CM Punk being on WWE 13 cover three years ago.
There is some upside and downside to this, the upside is there will be a lot old school fans buying this game a lot more now. Since one of the top superstars of the old school ERA is on the cover. The downside is this might hurt the current fans; everyone wanted someone like Brock Lesnar to be on the cover since he is the hottest thing right now in the WWE.
But as we all know the cover does not mean anything, the thing that means the most in video games is the product its self. If it is a great wrestling video game almost everyone will forget about the cover it is being rumored to be a great video game. If it’s a bad one the company is going to be hearing a lot of complaints, about the cover and the in game product.
