As an eventful WWE Extreme Rules pay-per-view was coming to a close, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins made his return to the WWE.

Rollins had been out with an injury since November and weeks of speculation suggested that he was returning sooner rather than later. Reports told fans that Rollins would return around June 6th, just before the WWE Money in the Bank event, but just ahead of Extreme Rules, all of Rollins social media accounts started buzzing.

His Twitter and Facebook accounts posted similar messages about an impending return at Extreme Rules, including a quickly deleted tweet that said: “"The time has come @WWERomanReigns Thanks for keeping my thrown warm. See you tonight.

At the end of the night, Rollins attacked Roman Reigns as he celebrated his win over AJ Styles. Rollins hit the champion with the Pedigree and the show closed with the former champion lifting the championship high.

He has already signalled his intentions to the WWE Universe.

Heel or face?

A number of conflicting reports in the past few weeks have said that Rollins could return as either a heel or as a face. The most recent reports said he was going to return as a heel but would be cheered loudly as he was returning.

There was no music for Rollins last night, which could suggest a change in theme but that is probably unlikely given that his current music is great for his character as it is impactful and straight to the point.

As Rollins lifted the title high, he didn't give any indication that he would be returning as a good guy. He looked laser focused as he acted Reigns but didn’t celebrate in any way that a good guy would.

The only thing we do know for certain is that Rollins wants his title back.

Rollins never lost the title

Rollins never officially lost his championship. He never lost it in a match before he had to go away because of injury, so it makes sense that is looking to redesign, rebuild and reclaim.

The former champion could have gotten involved with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match and cost Roman Reigns his championship but why bother when you can attack Reigns as he celebrates.

Nothing could be sweeter for Rollins than taking the title he never lost from Reigns.
