Heath Slater has become one of the most popular and in-demand performers in WWE, which considering it is 2016 is a strange sentence.

The 33-year-old was expected to fade into obscurity after being the only eligible superstar not to be drafted to SmackDown Live or Monday Night Raw.

After trying his luck at both brands and coming fingertips away from a contract he now his chance; after pairing up with Rhyno both men must defeat a number of tag-teams, advance into the final of the tournament and win the championships.

Easier said than done as if Slater wants to be a part of SmackDown Live he must win the entire tournament, and the odds are stacked against him.

Currently, the blue brand is still in a rebuilding phase, its star power is not on the same level as Raw and it will take time to create new stars for the future.

The tag-team division is also in a delicate stage as with no veteran experience to lead the teams, it seems the WWE may be recruiting from its past to lead the future.

Slater and Rhyno are expected to square off against a 'mystery' duo on next week's episode of SmackDown but it seems that the mystery has now been solved.

Chaz "Mosh" Warrington who was a member of The Headbangers, a tag-team from The Attitude Era posted a telling status on Facebook which read:

"Ever since Tyler was old enough to realize and understand that I wrestle, I've had a dream/wish. That dream/wish was to wrestle one more time in a WWE Ring so he could see it. This dream/wish will cole true this Tuesday night in Dallas, Tx!!! I will be on WWE's Smackdown Live Show on the USA Network!! Not only will he see me in ring but he'll be able to watch it Live on TV!! This is truly a dream come true for me and I'm beyond excited!!"

With Warrington's son expected to finally to be able to see him perform it may come at the expense of Slater's 46 children.

However, his partner Glenn "Thrasher" Ruth also posted something and it seems that the cat is out of the bag as he said "This Tuesday night at 8pm tune into the USA network to see THE HEADBANGERS back in a WWE ring!! SmackDown live here we come!!!"

Both men are past their peak but it will be interesting to see what they can bring to a roster lacking in star-power even if it is only a one-off appearance.

For those of you struggling to remember The Headbangers, do not fret we have you covered:

The duet debuted on WWF in November 1996 and despite being ruthless in their first couple of matches they were hit with a "nuns" outfit and then billed as The Flying Nuns.

While sounding ridiculous in hindsight it showed their diversity and an edge nobody predicted they had and accumulated to their eventual success in the company.

They picked up their first and only World tag-team titles at September 1997 Ground Zero: In Your House thanks to interference from 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin, but they lost the titles to The Godwins less than a month later in October at Badd Blood: In Your House.

Their second piece of success occurred in February 1998 when the duo won the NWA World tag-team championships from The Rock 'n' Roll Express.

While their partnership still exists to this day upon splitting up momentarily in WWE, it would be Thrasher achieving slightly more success than Mosh as he picked up The Hardcore Title on one occasion.

The pair still perform at independent shows but may now be signed to SmackDown Live on a permanent basis, possibly as enhancement talent.
