Raw kicks off with Vince McMahon power walking to the ring, with his latest stooge, RAW GM Brad Maddox. Maddox starts off by apologizing for giving John Cena the option of choosing his opponent at Summer Slam. Vince takes this opportunity to berate Daniel Bryan. Calling him names he most likely calls him by behind closed doors. Daniel Bryan makes his way to the ring. Bryan says even though Maddox said negative things about him, he knows it came from Vince. Vince tells Bryan he is being disrespectful because he interrupted him. Bryan tells Vince respect is a two way street, and Vince has disrespected him since day one.
'OMG... I... I Have a... HAND?!?!?!?' Source: www.wwe.com
Vince tells Bryan that Cena is a manipulator and picked Bryan because he knows he can beat him. Vince tells Bryan he doesn’t have ruthless aggression, and that is what skyrocketed John Cena to the top. Vince goes on to say he doesn’t want Bryan OR Cena to win at Summer Slam. Bryan more than held his own on the mic with Vince. I can’t help but wonder if there is going to be some kinda crazy screw job that happens at Summer Slam. Maybe Bryan goes corporate and wins with Vince’s help. Maybe it’s Cena who wins with Vince’s help. Not sure which scenario is more likely, but this whole thing smells of a set up. Stay tuned, people…
Six Man Tag Match: The Shield vs. Mark Henry and The Usos-
Ambrose starts off with Henry. Henry tosses Ambrose around the ring like a rag dog. Ambrose tags in Rollins. Henry proceeds to toss HIM around the ring like a rag doll. Rollins tags in Reigns. Henry ALSO TOSSES HIM AROUND THE RING LIKE A RAG DOLL! Reigns is not a small man on any level so that was impressive. Henry tags in Jimmy Uso, who takes all the momentum Henry had and poops the big bed with it. The Shield work over Jimmy. Jimmy manages to tag in Jey who mounts some offense. Jey tags in Henry, who again goes all “Hulk Smash” on The Shield. He sends all three members of The Shield to the outside. Jimmy and Jey both dive over the top rope onto The Shield.
After the break, Reigns is working over Jey’s arm. Reigns tags in Ambrose, who continues the assault. Ambrose tries a shoulder block in the corner, but runs shoulder first into the turnbuckle. Jey eventually tags in Henry, who powerslams Rollins. Reigns hits the ring and Spears Henry. Jey tags himself in and ends up getting hit with Ambrose’s front face ddt for the win.
The Shield defeats Mark Henry and The Usos.
After the match, Henry attacks The Shield. They hightail it out of the arena.
Backstage, we are treated to Ryback smacking Ricky Ricardo’s son in the face with tuna fish (no I didn’t make that up)… he later puts Little Ricky through the catering table for some reason. I guess, Ryback is supposed to be the WWE version of TNA’s Bully Ray… minus the skill.
Michael Cole and The King set up a Wyatt family vignette. Ok… I like the Wyatt Family. The only thing is I am not sure where this is going. Bray Wyatt babbles about heroes and how we don’t need them, but he attacks Kane. Doesn’t it sound like he should be attacking someone like Cena? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think that would be a good idea at this point, but still, it would make the most sense.
Next Kane barges into Maddox’s office and tells him he wants the Wyatt Family and he wants them now. Maddox tells him to focus on his match against Bryan later.
Singles Match: Rob Van Dam vs. Fandango w/Summer Rae-
Fandango was getting one hell of a push until he got knocked out of competition with a concussion a few weeks back. I had him pegged as a clear cut winner in the triple threat match for the IC title that was eventually won by his replacement, Curtis Axel. I say all this because there is no way he is going to go over RVD tonight on RAW. Fandango cartwheels over RVD only to turn around and get super kicked out of the ring. RVD follows that up with an Asai Moonsault to the outside. RVD tries to bring Fandango back into the ring, but Fandango hotshots him on the top rope. Fandango goes to the second rope, but misses a diving elbow drop. RVD hits a side kick and Rolling Thunder. RVD goes up to for the Five Star Frog Splash, but Fandango rolls out of the ring and walks away.
Rob Van Dam defeats Fandango via count out.
Backstage AJ Lee is with Big E. Langston. AJ is upset she has to fight Kaitlyn again. She says Kaitlyn is going to Spear her. She always Spears her. Every time she Spears her, a baby cries and the children loose a hero (HAHAHAHA!). She then starts laughing hysterically. They play up the supposed sexual tension between her and Langston, but as he leans in, she skips away. AJ, gets better and better as the weeks go on. I wish she had stronger talent to match wits with. I can’t help but wonder what it would have been like to see AJ and Trish Stratus/Lita/Mickie James in a foursome… err… I mean feud.
Divas Match: Divas Champion AJ Lee w/ Big E. Langston vs. Kaitlyn-
Kaitlyn pushes AJ around a bit. AJ gets the upper hand by dropping Kaitlyn’s arm across the top rope. AJ assault Kaitlyn in the corner. AJ locks in an armbar with a bridge. Kaitlyn gets to the bottom rope for the break. Kaitlyn rolls up AJ from behind, but AJ rolls through and hits the shining wizard. Kaitlyn kicks out at two. Kaitlyn manages to pick up AJ for a back breaker. Kaitlyn calls for the Spear, but runs right into a high knee by AJ. Kaitlyn surprises AJ with another Spear for the win.
Kaitlyn defeats AJ via pin fall.
AJ goes bananas in the ring after the loss. Dolph Ziggler comes out and challenges Langston to a match.
Singles Match: Dolph Ziggler vs. Big E. Langston w/ AJ Lee-
Ziggler attacks Langston as soon as the bell rings, but Langston swats him away like a fly. Ziggler goes for a Stinger Splash in the corner, but Langston catches Ziggler mid-air and hits a massive belly to belly suplex. Langston goes on to hit a running splash on the prone Ziggler. Langston tells Ziggler over and over again that his time is up and it’s Langston’s time. Langston ends up running shoulder first into the corner. Ziggler takes him down with a drop kick and sends Langston to the outside. AJ runs into the ring and attacks Ziggler.
Dolph Ziggler defeats Big E. Langston via disqualification.
After the match Langston yells at AJ. While he is distracted, Ziggler sneaks up behind him and hits the Zig Zag.
Backstage Daniel Bryan approaches John Cena and asks him if what Vince said earlier was true. Cena tells Bryan not to believe a word Vince says.
Singles Match: World Heavyweight Champion Alberto Del Rio vs. Christian-
So Del Rio is going to get to pick his Summer Slam opponent. This should be interesting. I think Hornswoggle is finally going to get the title shot he always wanted. Christian is in control early. Del Rio seemingly can’t get out of the gate. Standing switch in the corner. Del Rio manages to land a few stiff kicks to Christian, then a standing suplex. Del Rio ends up on the outside. Christian attempts a baseball slide, but Del Rio side steps. Del Rio pushes Christian back first into the steel steps. As Christian rives in pain, Del Rio drop kicks Christian’s arm into the steps. After a short break, Del Rio hits a senton bomb of the top on to Christian’s injured arm. Del Rio sets Christian in the tree of woe and lays into him with a few well-placed kicks. Del Rio goes up for a top rope suplex, but Christian pushes him off the top. Del Rio charges Christian and walks right into a tornado ddt. Christian runs at Del Rio, but gets caught in a tilt-a-whirl back breaker. Del Rio goes for another senton, but Christian moves out of the way. Christian goes for the Spear but Del Rio rolls out of the ring. Christian chases him to the outside. As Christian gets in the ring, Del Rio kicks him in the head. Del Rio only gets a two count. Del Rio tries to slap on the Cross Arm Breaker, but Christian rolls through and pins Del Rio.
Christian defeats Alberto Del Rio via pin fall.
Singles Match: Wade “The Falling Star” Barrett vs. Cody Rhodes-
*sigh* ok I guess we get to witness the further adventures of the artist formally known as the future of the WWE Wade Barrett. Barrett won’t win this match, even though he probably should. This is not a slight against Rhodes on any level, but nine times out of ten, the guy who is actually in the middle of a feud will beat the guy who can’t buy a win. So far Barrett has been in total control (another sign he has not shot of winning). Rhodes hits a VERY impressive moonsault of the top on Barrett. Barrett telegraphs a back body drop and ends up getting kick in his neither region. Barrett sets up for a pump handle slam, but Rhodes reverses it into Cross-Rhodes for the win.
Cody Rhodes defeats Wade Barrett via pin fall. CALLED IT!
After the match, Damien Sandow comes out on the ramp and calls Rhodes and his whole family carnival folk… which actually kind of fits, which makes it even more hysterical.
Singles Match: Daniel Bryan vs. Kane-
This is the first time we have seen Kane since the beat down he took from the Wyatt Family a few weeks back. I would be shocked if this match ends with an appearance by the Wyatts. Both Kane and Bryan look a bit reluctant to start the match. Bryan hits a running knee to Kane’s chest. Kane knees Bryan in the gut. Kane hits the ropes, but Bryan grabs his leg and locks in a single leg crab. Kane powers out. Bryan goes for his back flip/clothesline combo, but runs directly into a big boot by Kane. Suplex by Kane. Kane goes for the pin, but Bryan kicks out at two. Slam by Kane, which he follows up with a drop kick to Bryan’s face. Bryan kicks Kane in the head. Bryan mounts the top turnbuckle, dives off, but gets caught by the throat. Bryan escapes Kane’s chokeslam attempt, and hits a clothesline. Bryan sends Kane to the outside. Bryan runs off the apron and knees Kane right in the face.
After the break, Bryan drop toe holds Kane into the bottom turnbuckle. Bryan goes up top and hits a drop kick. Kane ends up in the corner. Bryan hits his triple drop kick combo in the corner. Bryan goes up top but gets an uppercut by Kane on the way down. Bryan tries the YES! Lock, but can’t get Kane over. Kane tries a chokeslam, but Bryan reverses it into a small package for the win… Seriously, Bryan is channeling Bret Hart with all these small package victories.
Daniel Bryan defeats Kane via pin fall.
'Kane, Let me show you something Vince showed me earlier. Trust me, its worth it.' Source: www.wwe.com
After the match, Kane chokeslams Bryan. The Wyatt Family makes their way down to the ring. Kane immediately goes after Bray Wyatt. He grabs him by the throat, but the other two attack him before he can get his revenge. They drag Kane back into the ring and beat the crap out of him.
Divas Singles Match: Natalya vs. Brie Bella-
Nattie should rip Brie’s head off and poop down her neck… yeah that’s how I would book this match. THAT’S how it should end. After a brief flurry, Brie controls Nattie for much of the match. Brie hit a sick ddt on Nattie. Nattie powers out of a side headlock and powerslams Brie. She follows up with spinning clothesline. Nattie grabs Brie’s legs for the Sharpshooter, but Nikki Bella comes out playing a duck call thingie, which distracts Nattie long enough for Brie to roll her up for the win.
Brie Bella defeats Natalya via pin fall.
ARGH!!!! This is so frustrating watching someone with less talent beat someone who could legitimately kick their ass. Just another reason I developed a habit of fast forwarding through Divas matches.
Singles Match: Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel w/Paul Heyman vs. R-Truth-
From the looks of things R-Truth has taken JTG’s spot as RAW’s resident Jobber. The sad part is I like them both (Truth and JTG) but they are clearly both victims of the age old adage, “creative has nothing for you”. Truth gets his stuff in at the beginning of the match (spinning leg lariat thingie and so forth) but Axel takes control, dropping Truth with a reverse facebuster. CM Punk runs down the ramp and attacks Axel. He sets his sights on Heyman, but Axel provides enough of a distraction for Heyman to waddle away.
Backstage HHH asks Vince if he is done screwing with Daniel Bryan. Vince says he wants someone who can beat Cena, and that isn’t Bryan. Steph walks in and says they need to give Bryan a corporate make over… Does that mean the cast of “Queer Eye for a Straight Guy” is hosting RAW next week? Let’s hope not.
Main Event Tables Match: John Cena vs. Cryback-
Cena takes the early advantage and sends Ryback to the outside. Cena tries to grab a table from under the ring, and gets pummeled by Ryback in the process. Ryback tries to put a table through Cena (yes you read that right) but Cena ducks to avoid the contact. After a commercial break, Ryback tries to powerbomb Cena through a table, but Cena wiggles out. Ryback throws Cena into the ring steps. Ryback takes the ring steps and puts them in the ring. Cena grabs Ryback and runs him back first into the ring apron. Cena sets up a table on the outside and tries to suplex Ryback through it. Ryback reversed it and suplexed Cena on the floor. Ryback throws Cena back into the ring. . Ryback gets in the ring and walks right into the STF by Cena. Ryback crawls through the bottom rope to break the hold.

Ryback rolls under the ring as Cena throws a table at him. Ryback comes out the other side of the ring and Spears Cena. Ryback picks up the steel steps and hits Cena upside his head with them. Ryback lifts Cena up with a military press and launches Cena, but Cena sails over the table, not through it. As they get back in the ring, Cena back drops Ryback on the steel steps that Ryback brought in the ring earlier in the match. Cena then hits the Five Knuckle Shuffle on the steps. Cena grabs a table, but as he turns around Ryback picks him up and levels him the Backpack Stunner. Ryback sets up a table in the corner. Cena gets to his feet just in time to get decapitated by the Meat Hook. Ryback tries to clothesline Cena through the table, but Cena moves out of the way, picks him up and slams him through the table with the AA.
John Cena defeats Ryback.
After the match, Daniel Bryan comes down and takes the title belt. He gets in the ring and holds it out for Cena to take. When Cena reaches Bryan pulls the belt back and tells Cena the belt is his. Cena grabs it back and tells Bryan he has a long way to go. The great build to their Summer Slam match continued this week. Cena has been showing a bit more attitude as of late, which makes him come off as a bit of a heel. I know, I know Cena is no heel but regardless of how you look at it, Bryan will be cheered and Cena, as always, will be booed… well by the adults at least. At the end of the day, if either superstar has you invested enough to have a reaction, this whole thing is a success.
