Disgraced fast bowler Mohammad Amir has been cleared by the ICC to return to domestic cricket in Pakistan.

There was worldwide anger when the Pakistan trio of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Amir were found guilty of spot-fixing in 2010 by bowling deliberate no-balls against England. However, there was also slight sympathy for the plight of young Amir who many felt had been led astray.

Amir was viewed as the most promising young bowler in the world when he was banned from all cricket for five years.

Michael Atherton writing for the Times in 2010 stated that he believed Amir's rehabilitation 'should be at the heart of the cleansing of Pakistani cricket.'

Atherton went on to summarise how most viewed the situation surrounding Amir.

'The brilliant young bowler is not the cause of the problem but the most tragic consequence of it.'

Amir will now need to find a domestic side whilst his international ban will still be upheld until the 2nd September.
