Mumbai Indians 202-5 (20 overs) Simmons 68, Sharma 50, beat Chennai Super Kings 161-8 (20 overs) Smith 57, McClenaghan 3-25, by 41 runs.

A brilliant all-round performance from the Mumbai Indians saw them pick up the 2015 IPL trophy.

Having been inserted to bat first after Chennai skipper MS Dhoni won the toss, Mumbai found themselves in early trouble when the in-form Parthiv Patel was run-out in the opening over of the match by Faf Du Plessis for a duck.

Mumbai recovered though, with Lendl Simmons and Rohit Sharma putting together a match-winning partnership of 119 in 11 overs to set the perfect platform from which to build on.

Simmons scored 68 from 45 balls, hitting eight fours and three sixes, with Sharma adding 50 off 26 balls, striking six fours and two sixes, before the pair were removed in consecutive deliveries by the Dwayne's; Smith and Bravo, to leave Mumbai at 120-3 from 12.1 overs.

Kieron Pollard then took charge, adding 36 from 18 balls including three maximums off an Ashish Nehra over which cost 23 runs as the Indians took their score towards 200.

Pollard was ably assisted by Ambati Rayudu who also added 36 including three sixes as the pair added 71 for the fourth wicket before the big West Indian fell to Mohit Sharma, allowing Harbhajan to come to the crease and take the score past 200 with a huge six off Bravo in the final over.

In reply, Chennai were too subdued in the powerplay and never really looked capable of chasing down the large total.

After the six overs, Chennai had only lost one wicket, yet they had also only scored 31 runs after some excellent bowling from Lasith Malinga, Vinay Kumar and Mitchell McClenaghan, who accounted for the early wicket of Mike Hussey.

The Super Kings were always behind the eight-ball in the run chase, losing wickets throughout with Smith, Suresh Raina, Bravo and Dhoni all falling between the 12th and 16th overs.

McClenaghan was the pick of the bowlers with his three wickets, but the whole bowling unit really impressed, including the young Hardik Pandya as they kept Chennai to just 161 from their 20 overs to win by 41 runs.

Rohit Sharma, the Mumbai captain, was given man-of-the-match after his excellent innings, with his side winning nine of their last ten games in the competition to become worthy IPL champions.
