Uncapped Hampshire all-rounder Liam Dawson has been included in the England squad for next month’s World T20, despite coach Trevor Bayliss saying he's never watched the player play before.

Squad news

Bowler Stuart Broad has been left out as has, all-rounder Chris Woakes, but Steven Finn has been included, although he is currently injured and so may lack match sharpness come the first game against the West Indies.

Bayliss has his say

Dawson has been involved with the England Lions across the winter and has performed incredibly well throughout the time, which has earnt him this call-up for the first time. Coach Bayliss has been giving his reasons behind the call up and has said, "I haven't actually seen him play a game, I went to one or two of the Lions practices and saw him in the nets."

Bayliss has some thoughts on the bowling ability of Dawson, saying "From a bowling point of view, he gets a bit on the ball and he looks as though he's got something about him personality-wise. He can bat as well and he's a good fielder apparently."

England's run in

England will be led by Eoin Morgan for the T20 World Cup which commences against the West Indies on the 16th March. England will also play South Africa and Sri Lanka in the group stage, as well as facing one of the qualifiers Scotland, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Hong Kong from the earlier stage.

Pieterson not thought of

Kevin Pietersen has been in fantastic form of late in 20/20 cricket but he has not earned a selection, although many thought he deserved a place in the side. "He wasn't even discussed in the selection meeting," said Bayliss."We've played very well in Twenty20 cricket over the last six months. We just want to move forward with that young team."

Who missed out?

Broad, who helped England to win the same competition six years ago, has been overlooked for the tournament as England look at the long term viewpoint when picking their best squad.

Chris Woakes has also been left out of the squad in the favour of Finn, with Chris Jordan and Reece Topley the other preferred pace options. Hampshire opener James Vince has also been chosen ahead of Luke Wright, who has appeared more than 50 times for England in the shortest form.

Full squad: Eoin Morgan (Middlesex) (capt), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Sam Billings (Kent), Jos Buttler (Lancashire), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), Steven Finn (Middlesex), Alex Hales (Nottinghamshire), Chris Jordan (Sussex), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy
