England begin their ODI series against Sri Lanka on Tuesday at Trent Bridge looking to bring their test form into the ODI arena.

England completely outplayed Sri Lanka in the three-match test series just past, winning the series 2-0 and they will be looking to continue their push to become the best ODI side in the world by winning this series.

England's last ODI series was back in February when they played South Africa away from home, a series which they lost 3-2 and therefore will be looking to get back to winning ways at home.

Sri Lanka in this form of the game are a much a much harder nut to crack and in both of their warm-up matches against Ireland they won them convincingly to give them a boost ahead of this series with England.

Sri Lanka will also have good memories of the last time the two sides met in 2014 in England, when they came out in top 3-2 in the five-match series.

In terms of rankings going into the series, Sri Lanka are fifth while England are sixth. Both teams, therefore, will be looking to put in strong performances in order to improve and move up the rankings.

Key players

Jos Buttler - Buttler is one of the best players in this form of the game and will be hoping his spell in the IPL with the Mumbai Indians will get him ready for this series. Buttler averages 35 in ODIs for England and he will be hoping to shine in this series. Buttler also has form against Sri Lanka when he scored a brilliant 124 from 74 balls in the 2014 series so he is the one of the players that England hope can spur them on to the series win.

Angelo Matthews - The Sri Lankan captain is his sides best player and one that performs on a consistent basis. Matthews averages nearly 40 in ODI cricket which is very good and he will want to lead his side to another series victory against England. Matthews also has form against England in the not to distant past as he scored an unbeaten half century in his sides loss to England in the recent T20 World Cup.

Team news

England's squad for the series is much changed with the likes of James Anderson and Stuart Broad not in the squad as they rest for the Pakistan test series later in the summer. Eoin Morgan takes over the capitan duties from Alistair Cook in the ODI arena with the likes of Jason Roy and Buttler in the squad to add power to England's batting.

Sri Lanka also welcome some new additions to their ODI with Farveez Maharoof and Suraj Randiv coming into the squad. Matthews will once again lead his side as he does in all forms of the game and is one of the best in the short form of the game.
