Tim Wellens (Lotto-Belisol) secured overall victory at the Eneco Tour on Sunday after a thrilling final stage.

Guillaume Van Keirsbulck (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) took a solo victory on the last stage of the week-long race.

Andrea Guardini (Astana) won the opening flat stage in Terneuzen, also taking the lead in the general classification.

On Stage 2 it was the turn of Zdenek Stybar (Omega Pharma-QuickStep), the Czech rider winning the 177 kilometre stage from Waalwijk to Vlijmen and taking the leader's jersey from Guardini.

Stage 3 saw the race's only individual time trial. Dutch national TT champion Tom Dumoulin (Giant-Shimano) took the win, but it was his compatriot Lars Boom (Belkin) who took the overall lead.

The final flat stage saw Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ) emerge victorious, with Boom holding onto the lead in the general classification.

On Stage 5 the race moved on to hillier terrain, and with that came a shake-up in the overall standings. Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) won the stage, with Dumoulin moving to the top of the leaderboard.

The penultimate stage saw Wellens come to the fore. The Belgian took a magnificent solo victory, winning by 50 seconds from Boom, and taking a huge leap from sixteenth to first in the overall standings ahead of the final stage into Sittard-Geleen.

And it proved to be a dramatic day of racing as Van Keirsbulck attacked from the breakaway with 30 kilometres to go, and stayed away to win by 46 seconds.

Wellens and his team-mates controlled much of the race from the safety of the front of the peloton, but in the pack tempers boiled over as Niki Terpstra (Omega Pharma-QuickStep) and Maarten Wynants (Belkin) became embroiled in a spot of pushing and shoving.

Terpstra later apologised for his part in the incident via his Facebook page.

It was a disappointing end to the week, but it will not overshadow a great week of racing, and a wonderful win for Tim Wellens.
