Britain's Alex Dowsett is set to launch an attempt on the Hour Record.

The 26-year-old Commonwealth champion is one of a number of athletes to have signalled their intent to target the record in 2015.

Australian riders Jack Bobridge and Rohan Dennis have announced that they will attempt to break Matthias Brändle's record of 51.852 kilometres, set in October.

Former Tour de France winner and World Time Trial champion Bradley Wiggins is also reportedly set to announce details of his own attempt in the near future.

And Paralympic champion Sarah Storey will take on the women's record at the same Revolution track event as Dowsett.

The Hour Record has enjoyed something of a renaissance in 2014 after the UCI introduced new rules surrounding the use of aerodynamic equipment.

Germany's Jens Voigt broke Ondrej Sosenka's nine-year-old record in September to bring the curtain down on his stellar road career.

But the following month, Brändle rode more than half a kilometre more to set a new benchmark.

Dowsett, who suffers from haemophilia, hopes that his attempt at the record can raise awareness of the condition.

"The hour is something I've always been interested in; the simplicity of it, mostly: no tactics, no hiding, just you and the bike," he said.

"Now I've got a new sense of drive as I know that the more success I can achieve, the more hope it will give everyone in the whole rare disease community."
