The nail-biting battle royale between Alberto Contador and Chris Froome made the 2014 Vuelta a Espana the most exciting stage race of the season.

And the race organisers have decided to up the ante a notch for 2015 by including four summit finishes in the first week.

The summit finishes were revealed in the official presentation of the first week.

They will be at Caminito del Rey (Stage 2), Vejer de la Frontera (stage 4), Cazorla (Stage 6) and Capilleira (Stage 7).

There have been multiple leaks to the Spanish media reporting that the race is expected to have nine summit finishes in total.

The official route is due to be unveiled on Saturday.

The expected contenders for the General classification are Nairo Quinatana (Movistar) who had to withdraw following a crash in the TT stage of the 2014 edition, and Joaquim Rodriguez (Katusha).

Alberto Contador is not expected to take part as he has announced that he will be aiming for the Giro-Tour double.

It is unknown whether Chris Froome and Fabio Aru, who were the key GC contenders in the 2014 Vuelta, will race.
