Tinkoff-Saxo rider Alberto Contador has 'set a date' for his potential retirement in 2016, at which point he will be 34.

"It is true that the years are going by and you have to set a date; after 2016 what I can say for now is that I don't see myself racing." spoke Contador in a press conference.

However, the Spaniard declared that he was feeling 'very well physically', and confirmed his intentions, as he hopes to not only compete with his team in this year's Giro D'Italia and Tour De France, but to finish on the podium.

"I could not know exactly how many years I could compete in the grand tours. I would like to retire at the top."

Contador has previously won 6 Grand Tours, with 3 of the wins coming from the two tours he is planning to race this year.

"My plan is to compete at the Giro and the Tour and I don't want to be second in any of them. I just want to win both although we have to wait and see what happens." he added.

Contador is due to start his season - the last on his current contract - on Wednesday, February 18 in the Vuelta a Andalucia
