It is official Hodgson is in the running to be taking the reigns at Euro 2012.

With six weeks until the tournament begins the FA are turning their sights to a man who has guided Switzerland to two major tournaments and beyond the group stages as well as bringing Finland to the brink of qualification.

Now let's weigh up the facts:

Harry Redknapp is the man the media want, his son Jamie, his nephew Frank and daughter-in-law Louise all have good rapport with the powerful British press and he is the man the people want but clearly he won't come cheap. With a year remaining on his contract at Tottenham the FA are more interested in a man who comes for costless.

Hodgson is out of contract and is guiding West Brom into the top half of the League, just as he has done with Blackburn and Fulham in the past.

The question marks remain over Hodgson delivering at the biggest stages, Liverpool didn't work out, Inter Milan lost the 1997 Uefa cup final under him and Fulham didn't deliver in the Europa league's last hurdle under the Croydon native.

Can he handle the pressure of the media once more on such a colossal stage and is he the man for this summer alone or beyond?

The jury is still out on Hodgson and only time will tell if he is the man to guide England forward this summer or not. Surely he must be worth a chance, he is a clever and well experienced European style manager and at a tournament like this when all seems to be lost before it even begins he may just be the man to turn England into a team capable of challenging at the top table.

Regardless the FA know what they think they want and the fans just desire and deserve one thing, success.
