Newcastle kept the pressure on Arsenal and Tottenham as two wonder strikes from Papiss Cisse put Chelsea to rest.

The Toon started the brighter with Cisse and Ba driving forces once again after the slip up to Wigan last week.

Newcastle took a deserved lead through a wonderful shot from their prolific number nine. They also hit the bar on the stroke of half time and ended the first half in complete control. They had more shots on goal and more corners than their blue opposition.

Chelsea changed things up in the second half bringing on Mata, Drogba and Lampard and began to push for the equaliser.

Sturdy defending and a goal line clearance from Newcastle kept them in it as Tiote was stretchered off to be replaced by Ryan Taylor.

The injury to Tiote looked serious as eight minutes of the clock ebbed away with an eager Mata and Drogba trying to get on the score sheet.

With eleven minutes of injury time to be played it looked as though Chelsea would break through Newcastle's resolute defence. But a first time effort from Cisse, that looped in from 30 yards out leaving Cech stunned, put the victory in Newcastle's hands.

Chelsea's heads dropped and minds drifted to the FA and Champions League finals as Pardew celebrated an historic victory over the Barcelona defeaters.

With Tottenham beating a bruised and broken Bolton, Arsenal can feel Redknapp and Pardew's men breathing down their knecks as the race hots up for third place with only three hours of football left to play.
