Roy Hodgson made his biggest call to date, naming his 23 man provisinal England squad which including John Terry, who is accused of racially abusing English defender Anton Ferdinand.
The new England manager said that Terry is "innocent until proven guilty" and merits his place among the party. Joining him in defence will be Leighton Baines, Gary Cahill, Ashley Cole, Glen Johnson, Phil Jones and Joleon Lescott with Micah Richards missing outt. The biggest omission is, of course, Rio Ferdinand with the United defender's international career looking to be at an end.
In midfield we see a mix of young and old with Gareth Barry, Stewart Downing, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, James Milner, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Scott Parker, Theo Walcott and Ashley Young while Steven Gerrard will captain the team just like in South Africa 2010. Gerrard was Hodgson's captain at when the England captain managed Liverpool. An injured Scott Parker is a concern with Michael Carrick missing out.
Debate was always going to surround the forwards that England have and whether they are and will be effective or not. Peter Crouch did not make the cut despite his phenomenal international goal scoring record and Hodgson has instead gone for youth and pace. His forward line is comprised of Andy Carroll, Jermain Defoe, Wayne Rooney, and Danny Welbeck.
This is a fast and youthful team with a strong level of European and major tournament experience among the majority of the squad and once again England can dare to dream of success.
