Cambridge United will be hoping to build on their victory over League Two pacesetters Burton Albion.

The U's took an unlikely win away from the Pirelli Stadium after a brace from Tom Elliott and a goal from Ryan Donaldson helped them to a comfortable 3-1 victory. Meanwhile, their weekend opponents Oxford United beat Newport County 1-0 to climb further away from the bottom two.

Cambridge manager Richard Money is aware of the task Oxford pose: "They're trying to play football all over the pitch, so that in itself presents a challenge which we have to really make sure we meet in the right way."

The U's will be hoping their win over Burton can be the building blocks to a long run of form, as they are yet to win back-to-back league games since their return to the Football League.

"If you can put two, three or four results together you can see the significant jump that you can make in this type of table," Money said.

Like Cambridge, Oxford have also failed to win back-to-back and their inconsistent form is the reason why they currently occupy 20th in Sky Bet League Two. Despite this, Oxford have played some decent football thus far. However, Michael Appleton is keen to keep the players firmly grounded:

“We’ve had a lot of plaudits for the way we’ve played and rightly so, because we’ve played some really good stuff.

“We’ll continue to do that, but for me the most important thing is I don’t want the players to turn up and think it’s like the X Factor show and it’s a chance to show off my talents.

“It’s not about that, it’s about getting three points," he said.
