At one point, Oxford actually led the match by a score of 0-1. But, not only did Cambridge fight back, they stormed out with five straight goals as Cambridge eventually defeated the visitors by a score of 5-1 on Saturday afternoon at The R Costings Abbey Stadium.

Cambridge started out nervously as the hosts gave the ball away very easily and Oxford were able to capitalize on the mistakes. Callum O'Dowda played a beautiful through ball to Tom Newey. Newey's cross found Danny Hylton inside the eighteen yard box and fired the ball past the Cambridge goalkeeper. This would be the only thing Oxford supporters would be able to celebrate today and even the celebration would be cut short.

Kwesi Appiah nearly hit back immediately as he unleased a rocket from 20 yards out, but it looked like Ryan Clarke may have gotten his hand on the ball as it slammed off of the cross bar. It was a warning sign though that Appiah was dangerous, if the visitors were not careful at the back. In the 18th minute, Liam Hughes laced his effort from outside of the box, but it never troubled the Oxford goalkeeper.

Clarke did well to deny Robbie Sampson who nearly found the back of the net with a close range header on the half an hour mark. Appiah again was involved in the Cambridge build-up as he found Tom Elliott with a beautiful through ball, but again Clarke was there to keep his clean sheet and Oxford in this match, four minutes later. But eventually, Appiah managed to beat Clarke who had done brilliantly all match so far as he was beat from 15 yards out to level the match.

Right before the halftime interval, Oxford gave the ball away cheapily at the back and Appiah pounced as the first effort was saved, but he was there to poke the rebound into the back of the net to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. The flood gates opened up in the second half as Cambridge scored within the first ten minutes of the restart as Ryan Donaldson fired home Appiah's cross to double their advantage.

It was easy for Cambridge in the remaining minutes of the match as Oxford just had no answer to the onslaught. Tom Elliott was unmarked inside the eighteen yard box and the visitors paid the consequences as he headed home Matt Taylor's cross with ease. The last goal of the match came with a minute of regualer time left and off of a set piece for the first time this afternoon with Simpson heading home the fifth goal for Cambridge as they run out as clear victors.
