Poland will be hoping that they can keep up their good run of form when they welcome Switzerland for this friendly tonight.
The poles extended their unbeaten run in Euro 2016 qualifying when they defeated Georgia 4-0 on Friday night which put them three points above the world champions Germany, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland. Manager Adam Nawalka spoke of his team’s persistence to get the win.
He said: "There were some strong words during the break but we were consistent in our performance. At half-time, we spoke about not leaving anything behind before leaving the pitch at full-time.”
Switzerland finally kicked off their qualifying campaign at the third attempt last month defeating San Marino 4-0 and then beating Lithuania by the same score on Friday, these results leave them second in Group E but still six points adrift of leaders England.
Switzerland were one of the favourites to qualify but they had their disappointing start to the campaign with a 2-0 defeat at home to England and then a 1-0 loss to Slovenia. One major concern for the home side will be the consistency of striker Robert Lewandowski, he hasn’t scored for his country since the first qualifying game when they defeated Gibraltar 7-0.
However Nawalka praised his striker’s work rate. “Many opponents come to him and it makes space for our other players. Even if he doesn’t score, he sets up his team-mates to score.” He added.
