Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid will hope to maintain their phenomenal European form, as they aspire to go one step closer to retaining the trophy, travelling to Basel on Wednesday.

Los Galacticos possess a 100% win record this season in Group B, having conceded just two goals in their opening four fixtures. Knocking five past Basel in their opening game, goals from Gareth Bale, Cristiano Ronaldo, James Rodriguez and Karim Benzema added to an early own goal from Marek Suchy.

A point over Real Madrid, who have confirmed their place in the knockout stages with two games to spare, would see Basel secure second place in the group should Ludogrets claim all three points against Liverpool.

Continuing with a 2-1 victory over Ludogrets, with Ronaldo and Bale both adding their second goals of the tournament, Benzema and the Portuguese winger both took their tallys to three with a dominant 3-0 victory at Anfield. The Spanish outfit then saw off Brendan Rodgers' side once again, with Benzema settling a 1-0 win in the 27th minute.

Meanwhile, the hosts, who sit six points behind in second place, overcame Liverpool with a 1-0 victory after their opening fixture against the current European champions. However, Yordan Minev struck a 92nd minute winner in Belgium as fourth-placed Ludogrets secured a shock victory over the Swiss side. Paulo Sousa’s team managed to secure revenge when hosting the underdogs, with a 4-0 victory sending Bebbi to second place.

A point over Real Madrid, who have confirmed their place in the knockout stages with two games to spare, would see Basel secure second place in the group should Ludogrets claim all three points ahead Liverpool – also with a game to spare.

In order to see off the Spaniards, Sousa will have an almost complete squad available for his selection, but could be without veteran frontman Marco Streller – who has scored against Liverpool – due to a back compliant.

Meanwhile, the visitors are likely to rotate their starting line-up, as Fabio Coentrao, Sami Khederia and Keylor Navas are all expected to break into the side. Luka Modric also remains out with an injury sustained on international duty.

After running out unblemished winners at the Bernabeu earlier in the season, the five-time European champions also recorded a 2-1 triumph in their last visit to St. Jakob-Park 43 years ago.
