Oldham have given Paul Scholes the opportunity of his first management job by offering him the position at Boundary Park.

Current boss Lee Johnson is close to a switch to League One rivals Barnsley, which has meant a turn to the former Manchester United and England midfielder as they look to keep up their promotion push.

It is not known as to whether Scholes, who is now a TV pundit, is interested in taking up the position.

But being a boyhood fan of the club and having assisted and monitored training sessions in the past, he may well be considering the offer.

The United legend is also a good friend of Oldham chairman Simon Corney, who could play a big part in his eventual decision.
