Tottenham Hotspur legend Jimmy Greaves is currently in intensive care after he suffered a severe stroke on Sunday.

Greaves who scored a club-record 220 goals during his time at White Hart Lane had a minor stroke in 2012 but had appeared to have made a full recovery.

A family statement read: "His wife Irene and four children have asked for privacy during what is a worrying time. Jimmy had a minor stroke in 2012, but appeared to have made a full recovery.

"He was due to be inducted into the Tottenham Hotspur Hall of Fame on the 13th of May at a sell-out ceremony at White Hart Lane."

The 75-year-old started his career at Chelsea back in 1957 where he scored 124 goals in 157 games before he moved to AC Milan in 1961, he then moved onto Tottenham before his final games in his career at West Ham.

Tottenham tweeted: "Everyone at the club wishes Jimmy Greaves a speedy recovery after he suffered a stroke yesterday. Our thoughts are with Jimmy and his family at this difficult time."

Greaves also had an illustrious England career being part of the 1966 World Cup winning side and being fourth in the all-time top scorers list behind; Sir Bobby Charlton, Gary Lineker and Wayne Rooney with 44 goals in 57 appearances.
