Southend United will meet Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday in the SkyBet League Two play-off final, as they contest for a place in next season's League One at Wembley Stadium.

The two sides will compete over 90 minutes at the National Stadium, with the potential for extra time and penalties, as they look to join Burton Albion, Shrewsbury Town and Bury in gaining promotion.

Southend have reached this stage by coming 5th in the league, with 84 points. This saw them draw Stevenage in the Semi Final's, who they defeated 4-2 on aggregate thanks mostly to a 3-1 home victory in the second leg.

Wycombe also finished on 84 points, but pipped Southend to 4th place due to a better goal difference. Both sides were unlucky to miss out on automatic promotion, with third placed Bury just a point ahead. Plymouth Argyle were the enemy in the semi's, and they comfortably won 5-3 over two games.

Southend only have one injury worry ahead of the game, as centre back Adam Thomson remains out with a dislocated shoulder suffered in April, that is expected to keep him out until early October

Wycome could remain without first choice goalkeeper Matt Ingham, who missed both games against Plymouth with a knee problem. Steven Craig also missed the Plymouth second leg, but could return in time for Saturday's game.

Phil Brown (Southend manager): "We played Wycombe Wanderers twice this season and they're a decent side. They'll be a formidable opposition on Saturday, that's for sure. 90% of the team has been selected over the 48 games this season. The consistency level has been first class. With the 49th game of the season, I know my best team. Apart from Adam Thompson – who's out with a dislocated shoulder - every member of the squad is on the training pitch today, so I have some fantastic options."

Gareth Ainsworth (Wycombe manager): "When you're young you think you're going to get there more times than you do in your career but in 26 years of being in football I've only been to Wembley once, so take heed people because it doesn't come round very often.

"It's a special occasion and I think that when you're older you take more in anyway. When you're younger you let things pass you by, and the defeat didn't help either so maybe subconsciously I wanted to forget about it.

"I think a look around the stadium will help so we're going to try and get there and make sure that when the players do walk out on the pitch it isn't the absolute first time that they've done it.

"To prepare them is going to be important and also I don't want anyone to be in awe of anyone or treating this game any different."
