FIFA president, Sepp Blatter, has chaired an emergency meeting with continental football bodies after increasing pressure on the governing body over a corruption scandal, ahead of the annual congress in Zurich.

This comes after seven FIFA officials, including two vice-presidents, were arrested in Zurich on Wednesday on charges of; bribery, fraud and money laundering following a FBI investigation.

Despite these revelations and many calls of postponement, the vote for the FIFA presidency will go on Friday.

FIFA spokeswoman Delia Fischer said: "There was a meeting today with the president [Blatter] with the representatives from the confederations to discuss the current situation."

UEFA President Michel Platini flew to Zurich on Thursday after the meeting to personally ask the president to resign. However he refused and the Frenchman later said that, if he were to be re-elected, the European governing body would have to discuss its relations with FIFA and possibly boycotting the World Cup.
