Wycombe midfielder Peter Murphy is reportedly departing the League Two Play-Off finalists after just a single season.

Murphy, who arrived on a free transfer from Accrington Stanley last summer is said to have had his contract mutually terminated.

Liverpool born Murphy will be leaving The Chairboys after the club narrowly missed out on promotion, losing to Southend United in the Play-Off final on penalties.

The 25-year-old was an ever present last season, making 47 appearances and netting five times. His performances certainly aided in sending the High Wycombe side from near relegation in the 2013/14 season, to spending almost the entire of last season’s campaign in the automatic promotion places.

Wycombe however, finished fourth and entered the League Two Play-offs, making it to the final which went all the way to penalties. Murphy scored the first penalty, however Southend came out victorious.

Manager Gareth Ainsworth is sure to be disappointed in losing one of his star men, as he looks to rally his troops, in the hope of making it one step further and achieving promotion to League one next season.
