Chris Dagnall has left Leyton Orient to join Kerala Blasters in India, the O's have announced.

In surely one of the most unpredictable transfers of the summer so far, Dagnall has completed a move to the newly-founded Indian Super League, following Orient's relegation from League One this season.

The striker was offered a new deal with the London based club, with his contract expiring this month, but he turned it down in favour of a move abroad.

In an interview with Orient's club website, the 29-year-old described the move as "a new challenge" in "a completely new environment, country and culture." He also spoke about how he was "look[ing] forward" to the switch and thanked the fans and the club for their support during his spell with them.

The Indian Super League has gained great exposure since it's formation in late 2013, attracting some huge names in its first season last year. Luis García, Robert PiresDavid Trezeguet and David James all played in the league, the latter operating as a player-manager for Dagnall's new club, Kerala Blasters.

Peter Reid, Zico and Marco Materazzi all took up managerial positions in the league in 2014 too, and will continue their stints at their respective clubs in the coming season.

The ISL runs from September to December, ensuring that the hot temperatures in India do not affect the football. Peter Taylor, a former Orient player himself and most recently the manager of Gillingham, will take charge of Dagnall and the Blasters this year.

Back in London though, Orient now face some serious issues as they have seen their two top strikers depart this summer after Kevin Lisbie joined Barnet at the end of last month, a team who have just won promotion from the Conference to League Two.

They will struggle to replace the goals that Dagnall and Lisbie provided, and will be on the market for at least a couple of goal-scorers this summer as a result

Dagnall signed for Orient on a free transfer from Barnsley in January 2014, having fallen out of favour at the club and seen his contract expire without being offered a new deal. He scored 20 goals in 62 appearances for the O's in total, and was their top-scorer last season as they were relegated to League Two.
