Colchester United are on the verge of offering a deal to former Stoke City forward Tomi Adeloye.

The 19-year-old was released by Stoke last season and has been training with the U's recently.

Colchester manager Tony Humes is keen to sign the youngster for their Under-21 squad.

Humes was impressed with his performance in a friendly against Bishop Stortford and is keen to sign the youngster up. However, Adeloye is likely to play for the under-21s with a possible chance in the Colchester first team should he play well enough.

It is unknown whether there have been any other offers made for him but Colchester is certainly an open door for the teenager.

He came on as a substitute in Colchester's 3-2 friendly win at Bishop Stortford on Saturday.

He played for Charlton Athletic and Millwall's youth teams before joining Stoke City in the Summer of 2014. He played for the club's Under-21s before he joined Macclesfield Town on a loan deal in January.

Other trialists will not be signing on

While Adeloye is set join the club, trialists Olly Lee and Sherwin Grot will not be following suit.

Commenting on Lee, Humes said: “Olly’s a very good player but we’re looking for players who are going to make us better and we thought he was very similar to the players we have."

Should Adeloye sign, he will become the eighth summer signing, joining Richard Brindley, Kieran Bailey, Matthew Briggs, George Elokobi, Joe Edwards, Cameron James and Tariq Issa.

A busy pre-season schedule

He could be set to appear again for the U's this evening when they welcome West Ham United to the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

They have already started pre-season with three straight wins against Heybridge Swifts, Brentwood Town and Bishop Stortford.

Following the West Ham game they play Leyton Orient, Ipswich Town and a Fulham XI at the Weston Homes Community Stadium before they kick the League One season off against Blackpool on August 8th.
