Luton Town will today discover whether Craig Mackail-Smith's will sign for the club or not according to Dunstable Today, but the club are being made to sweat over his decision.

The former Brighton & Hove Albion forward has been with spending time with the Hatters during pre-season after being released from the AMEX at the end of last season.

Luton boss John Still has revealed that a decision is 'imminent' regarding Mackail-Smith's future. Still went on to say that the striker had already turned down offers from other Football League clubs as high up as the Championship and League One.

However, the 31-year-old started and played 76 minutes in Luton's latest pre-season game on Saturday in their 1-1 against Coventry City and manager Still believes that is a big indication of the striker's decision.

The story so far

Mackail-Smith began his professional career with St Albans City in 2000 at the age of 16, after developing through the club's youth system before spending a season with non-league Arlesey Town in 2003.

He later joined Dagenham & Redbridge, who at the time were managed by current Luton boss Still. Mackail-Smith spent three seasons with the club before eventually leaving after helping to guide the Daggers to automatic promotion in 2007.

The following summer, Mackail-Smith signed for Peterborough United where he went on to spend the most successful time of his career, in which he helped the Posh leap from League Two to the Championship in the space of three seasons.

During the 2010-11 season the forward scored 35 goals for the Cambridgeshire side, making him the most prolific scorer in England at the time and also helping him win the accolade of League One's Player of the Year in Peterborough's attempt to make an immediate return to the Championship.

In July 2011 Mackail-Smith made the move south to join Brighton & Hove Albion, signing a four-year deal for a fee believed to be at around the £3million mark. He spent four seasons with the Seagulls but after struggling with injuries was released at the back-end of the last campaign.
