Italy head coach, Antonio Conte, believes his side must be flexible after the Azzurri squeezed past Norway at the Stadio Olimpico to plant their flag atop Group H.

The hosts required late goals from Alessandro Florenzi and Graziano Pelle to see off the threat of the Norwegians after Conte had reverted back to his attack-minded 4-2-4.

Alexander Tettey opened the scoring for the visitors midway through the opening period as Italy continiously failed in their attempts to breach the Norway rearguard.

Offers condolences to the visitors

Speaking to RaiSport after the victory, Conte heralded the Norwegians determination, stating that they are "a strong side" who were unfortunate to drop into the play-offs.

In fact, such was the fine margins of Group H that Norway sat at the summit of the table only for Florenzi's equaliser to knock them down into the play-off positions.

With Croatia having successfully saw off the threat of Malta, Norway will have to contend with a place in the play-offs.

Hails versatility

“We played the way we had to, trying to give a sense of consistency," said the coach. "We didn’t deserve to be a goal down, this is the right path and I want this intensity and grit. We can lose or win, but the important thing is this attitude.”

When quizzed on the tactical switch midway through the second-half, Conte said that the plan was revert to a 4-2-4 later in the match, adding that "versatility must be one of our greatest strengths."

Pleased with consistency

However, Belgium's 3-0 victory over Israel means that it is Marc Wilmot's side who take up the final top seed in the draw for Euro 2016.

“We finished the group with 24 points, so I repeat that it’s difficult to explain why we are not seeds," said a bemused Conte. "We’ve lost only one game throughout the year.”
