Bristol City Women have signed 18-year-old Ellie Wilson from Reading. The England under-19 international made her first team debut for Reading only two years ago in 2014.

A promising career ahead

The defender has expressed her excitement at joining the FA WSL 2 side and sees her move as a ‘great opportunity’ in what she believes could well be a ‘great season’ for the Vixens.

“I’m really excited about Ellie’s signing. She has enormous potential,” manager Willie Kirk told Bristol’s official website.

Kirk believes the club will have a huge role in ‘shaping her future career' and ‘helping her develop into the player she wants to be’

Kirk keen to see her improve

The acquisition of the youngster will provide Kirk’s side with depth, as Wilson has the ability to play at full-back as well as at centre-half.

City returned to pre-season training this week and Kirk believes full time training will help his new signing to improve.

“Full time training will help her improve massively," he said. "She will improve tactically as she is exposed to more matches at club and international level.”

Plenty of new faces

The defender's arrival to the newly named Bristol City Women caps a busy week for the Vixens. Millie Farrow and Jodie Brett from Chelsea Ladies and Everton LadiesMegan Kelly have also joined the club.

It hasn’t just been a week of new arrivals for Wilson’s side; Scottish midfielder Caroline Weir opted to leave Bristol after just one year at the club to play for two time WSL 1 champions Liverpool Ladies; and is one of several new signings made by new manager Scott Rogers.

Kirk has also managed to keep hold of some of the club's recent signings, as defender Frankie Brown, goalkeeper Hannah Reid and Portuguese striker Tatiana Wilson all opted to re-sign for the club.
