Barnsley have completed the signing of Andy Yiadom from Barnet Football Club, with the former Bees captain signing a two-year deal with the Yorkshire outfit.

Andy Yiadom’s contract with Barnet expires this summer and will duly join the Tykes on a free transfer ahead of their 2016/17 campaign.

A club statement made to the Times Series outlined details of Barnet previously rejecting two approaches from Barnsley for Yiadom, then England C Player of the Year, last summer.

Success at Barnet

Yiadom represented Barnet on 177 occasions during his time in the capital and scored 15 league goals, including seven in 43 appearances as Barnet finished 15th last season, having been deployed on either the wing or at full-back.

The 24-year-old joined Barnet from Braintree Town in 2012 and has played an integral role in securing Barnet’s League Two status over the years, having won the Conference in 2015.

Both Yiadom and Heckingbottom excited by arrival

The former Hayes and Yeading United winger told Barnsley PlayerHD that he is “very pleased to come to a club like Barnsley” and that the club have “done very well” during the current campaign. He went on to say that he is “just looking forward to getting out there and doing his best for the club”.

“I know they play attacking and exciting football,” he continued. “That is what I am looking forward to doing.”

Manager Paul Heckingbottom proclaimed that he is “really pleased Andy has chosen us [Barnsley] as the next step of his career”. “He’s an athletic and exciting player with experience but,” he continued, “also has his best years ahead of him at 24 years of age”.

Play-off final looming for Barnsley

Barnsley, who reportedly obtained Yiadom’s signature over a “number of suitors”, are themselves vying for promotion and are currently leading Walsall 3-0 going into the second leg of the play-off semi-final.

A fortuitous Jason Demetriou own goal and a double from Sam Winnall ensured that Heckingbottom’s side are the favourites to advance to Wembley’s play-off final in just under a fortnight’s time.
