Norwich City boss Alex Neil believes that his side's Sky Bet Championship play-off semi-final with Ipswich Town will prove to be the most important encounter in the history of the local derby between the two.

A 4-2 win over Fulham was enough to send the Canaries up to third in the table as Ipswich held down sixth position despite a 3-2 defeat at Blackburn, with an East Anglian derby now standing in the way of a place in the Wembley final.

Neil has overseen a dramatic change in fortunes at the club since he joined from Hamilton Academical, but he knows that it will all be for nothing if his side cannot battle their way to a Premier League return.

"I should imagine it will be biggest derby ever in terms of what is at stake," Neil told Sky Sports News.

"It's a huge game, the sort of game you want to be involved in as a manager or a player.

"I know how much it will mean to everyone connected with the club - and we will be doing our utmost to make sure we come through it."

The first leg of their tie will take place at Ipswich's Portman Road on Saturday 9th of May, with the return leg coming the following Saturday. The winner will play either Middlesbrough or Brentford in the final.
