Middlesbrough's on-loan Chelsea star Patrick Bamford has added another trophy to his personal cabinet, having been named Match of the Day's Superstar of the Future.

Bamford, 21, has hit 19 goals in a stunning season with a conversion rate of over 20%, and is set to spend next season out on loan at a Premier League club - which could still be Boro if they are successful in their upcoming play-off campaign.

His performances over the course of the season, including important goals in the League and FA Cup at Anfield and the Etihad, have already seen him named the Championship Player of the Year.

The BBC programme's magazine determined the winner through an poll and Bamford was the runaway winner, claiming 41% of the vote.

He finished ahead of MK Dons loanee Delle Alli (21%), Derby midfielder Will Hughes (15%), Birmingham's Demarai Gray (12%) and Nathan Redmond of Norwich (11%).

Upon receiving the award, Bamford said: “It feels great. Obviously, a lot of young players have been given the chance to show their qualities in the league, so it means a lot that I have been selected as the winner.”

Bamford sat out Middlesbrough's 0-0 draw with Brighton on the final day of the regular season as he nurses a niggling ankle injury, though he is expected to return for the club's play-off semi-final first leg with Brentford.

The squad is currently in Spain for warm-weather recuperation and training ahead of the play-offs, with Chelsea teammate Tomáš Kalas remaining with the squad to train despite the expiration of his loan contract. Kalas is expected to return to Teesside next season having impressed since joining the club for the second half of this season.
