Rumours that Leeds United could be on the verge of bringing forward Jermaine Beckford back to the club are wide of the mark, according to the Yorkshire Evening Post.

The Sun had claimed that Leeds were interested in Beckford following his blistering end-of-season form which included a hat-trick in the League One play-off final, but these reports are thought to be largely presumptuous.

While controversial Leeds owner Massimo Cellino did speak with the forward’s representatives earlier this month and watched him at Wembley, the local paper states that the Whites' interest is unlikely to result in a formal move as all contact came before manager Uwe Rösler took the reigns at the club.

Beckford, now 31, was a popular figure at Elland Road during his time at the club as he helped the club to promotion from League One in 2010 and scored a famous goal against historic rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup.

But Rösler is expected to look elsewhere as he attempts to improve his side's goalscoring ability ahead of the 2015-16 season, with this year's leading scorer Mirko Antenucci managing only ten.

The striker, once touted as one of the most exciting attacking prospects in English football, is without a club after the expiry of his contract at Bolton Wanderers, and a return to loan club Preston North End could beckon.

The YEP has also distanced the club from a widely-reported move for another former player, 35-year-old goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

With Stuart Taylor and Alex Cairns both released at the end of the season, Rösler is looking to provide back-up and competition for first-choice stopper Marco Silvestri, but Robinson is thought not to be on the club's radar.
