Russell Slade and Mehmet Dalman have had a four-hour meeting to thrash out Cardiff City's plans to strengthen their squad for next season.

Manager Slade and chairman Dalman met yesterday and City are moving to close in on their targets.

Club owner Vincent Tan flew Slade out to Malaysia for face-to-face talks earlier this month, and the three men have now established a firm transfer budget and identified targets.

Murphy, Byrne and Ellis transfer plans scrapped

According to reports, Cardiff have pulled out of the race to sign Ipswich Town and Republic of Ireland striker Daryl Murphy, Swindon Town's Nathan Byrne and also Honduras U20 international Alberth Ellis. The only other player Cardiff have been linked with is Derby County and Scotland winger Johnny Russell, so fans can be excused if they automatically assume he's the clubs top target.

After Aston Villa forward Andreas Weimann joined Derby County earlier this month for £2.75m, it is believed that Russell will meet with new Derby manager Paul Clement for talks about his future. If the talks don't end well, that's where Cardiff are likely to jump in and make a move - if he is a serious target for the club.

The Bluebirds had identified Daryl Murphy as their top target earlier this month, who finished as the top scorer in the Championship. It's reported that Ipswich are demanding £4million-plus for Murphy and, while Cardiff City were among a number of clubs keen on the 32-year-old, they are now turning to targets in other positions.

The Welsh side have an abundance of strikers at the club

Cardiff already have nine strikers on their books; including Kenwyne Jones, Adam Le Fondre and Federico Macheda - who have all featured previously in the Premier League.

Cardiff have given no indications to the sort of players they're looking at. While the new design of the stadium has been released as well as the home kit and league fixtures, it looks like Cardiff fans will have to be patient in waiting for new faces coming through the door.
