Brentford have completed their second summer signing with the addition of centre-back Yoann Barbet from French Second Division outfit Chamois Niortais

The move sees the 22-year-old sign a four-year contract at Griffin Park after having a successful season where he made 33 appearances in the heart of the Niort defence.

Barbet came through the youth ranks at Girondins de Bordeaux and spent seven years at the Ligue Un side before moving on.

The defender played for Bordeaux’s reserve side – Bordeaux B for three seasons and made 75 appearances before moving on to Chamois Niortais in 2014.

A warm welcome for Barbet

Brentford Director of Football, Phil Giles, has extended a "warm welcome" to his new signing as he joins up for pre-season training, going on to claim the defender is "capable of progressing to a high level" in England.

New Brentford Head Coach Marinus Dijkhuizen told the Bees' official club website that the club had been tracking Barbet since last season, and that one of his first tasks after joining the Championship side was to review the scouting team's potential targets.

The incoming manager went on to say that Barbet had "really caught the eye", and capturing his signature was made one of his top priorities for the first weeks of his stewardship.

Understandably, Dijkhuizen has said he is "very happy" to have got his man, and says that he is "looking forward to working with him".

Barbet is Brentford's first summer signing under their new management system as the Bees look to go one better than their 2014/15 playoff defeat next season.

Premier League clubs target Jota

Meanwhile, reports are suggesting Premier League survival specialists Leicester City have joined the race to sign the Bees' Spanish playmaker Jota

Jota scored 11 goals in 42 appearances in an impressive year for the Bees last season.

Get West London claims that Swansea City, Derby County, and Bournemouth are also after the highly rated 24-year old.

It is reported that Brentford are holding out for a fee in excess of £5m for the Spaniard, who they signed in August 2014.
