Derby County have continued their busy summer transfer window by completing the signing of Tom Ince for a club record fee around the £4.75million mark.

Ince joins from recently-relegated Hull City as new manager Paul Clement's sixth summer signing, following the acquisitions of Alex PearceAndreas WeimannChris BairdScott Carson and fellow former loanee Darren Bent earlier in the summer.

Derby's season imploded despite Ince's good form

The 23-year-old spent a spell on loan with the Rams last season and scored 11 goals in 18 appearances, but his arrival also coincided with a drop in then-manager Steve McClaren's side's form as they plummeted down the Championship table and out of the play-off positions.

Clement, formerly Carlo Ancelotti's assistant at Spanish giants Real Madrid, has clearly been entrusted with a significant degree of spending power by the Derby hierarchy despite never having managed a club himself.

Clement is satisfied to have got his man

And the London-born 43-year-old has told the club's official website that he is "delighted" to be able to welcome Ince to the club, a player he described as "an exciting talent".

He went on to claim that the club is now "in a good place" in terms of the squad he has assembled, and praised the "positive impact" Ince had on the side last year.

Ince was named the Football League Young Player of the Year after a stunning 2012/13 season with former club Blackpool, but he hasn't kicked on with his career as expected and has failed to make the step up from under-21 to senior level with England.

His Premier League moves with Hull and originally Crystal Palace were also far from resoundingly successful, as he managed just 15 top-flight appearances in two years.

Ince's career gets back on track

The player himself has described himself as "over the moon" with the move in an interview with BBC Radio Derby, and while he admitted that last season was a "disappointment" in terms of the team's performance, he said it was "fantastic" to be playing first-team football again.

He also went on to praise the club's fans and staff for helping him "get back on track" after a difficult spell previous to his arrival.
