The compensation sage between Burnley and Liverpool for striker Danny Ings is set to drag on, with the Championship side not shifting from their demand of £8million for the player.

A long running affair

Liverpool confirmed the signing of Ings last month, as his contract at Burnley ran out on the 31st of June, but as he is a player under the age of 24, FIFA rules state that a compensation fee must be paid.

Burnley, fresh from Premier League relegation, are angry at having to lose their striker for a low fee, and remain determined to get as much money as they can.

The two clubs are yet to agree a deal for the striker, who scored 11 league goals last season, and the matter is expected to get handed over to a tribunal.

This would see the transfer fee decided by a court, and it would likely be around £6million, less than Burnley want but more than the £4million Liverpool originally intended to pay.

Possible replacements?

It is yet to be seen how Burnley may go about replacing their star player, but is has been muted that it could indeed be a Liverpool player who comes into the team.

Relations between the two clubs could certainly be helped if Jerome Sinclair was to agree a loan deal with the Clarets. Liverpool are keen for the 18-year-old striker to get match experience, and Burnley have been linked with a season long loan for him. Sinclair holds the record as Liverpool's youngest ever player, and made his league debut against Chelsea last season.

Another player linked also resides on Merseyside, but at Everton. Chris Long is a young forward with a bright futured ahead of him, who has also been linked with a move to Burnley on loan.
