New Brighton and Hove Albion signing Jack Harper is ready to impress for his new club.

Harper, 19, joined from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee on Thursday.

The youngster told the club's official website that he is ready to bring his experience of Spanish football to Spain and hopes to bring some "Scottish grit" to his new team as well as some "Spanish flair".

Harper had been with Madrid from an early age

Despite being born in Malaga, he has chosen to represent the country of his parents by playing for Scotland's Under-19 squad.

He had been at Real Madrid since the age of 13 and had been playing in their UEFA Youth League but the chances of him ever making the Real first team were becoming slim.

Harper spoke warmly of his time with the Spanish giants, saying that it had been "a great experience" to try his hand against "some of the top sides in Europe", but that he was aiming for first-team football and things in Madrid were becoming "quite complicated".

He said he had spoken with his agent and his family and decided Brighton was "a club on the rise" and "the best option for my future".

Hughton happy to have bagged himself a gem

Speaking about the transfer, Brighton manager Chris Hughton said: "We hope we can give him the platform to realise his undoubted potential,

"Jack's next step is to move up to senior football.

"His first priority is to complete his rehabilitation and work to get his match fitness, then challenge to break through into our first-team squad."

Harper became Brighton's eighth summer signing and joins Tomer Hemed, Liam Rosenior, Joe Ward, Daniel Akindayini, Gaetan Bong, Nikki Maenpaa and Vahid Hambo. The Seagulls have shown serious intent to bring their standards back to those that had them finishing in the play-off places in 2013 and 2014.

He will not make his Brighton debut until at least October, however, as he is currently out with a knee injury.
