Leicester City defender Paul Konchesky has become a target for Championship newboys Bristol City, according to HITC Sport.

Starting 26 games last season for Leicester, Konchesky helped the club escape relegation, a feat that seemed well out of reach over the Christmas period. As the Foxes head into their second campaign back in the Premier League, the defender's future with the team is now in doubt.

Leaving Leicester after a season of success?

New manager Claudio Ranieri recently admitted that Konchesky is not in his plans for the upcoming season, prompting speculation of a move elsewhere. The 34-year old's absence in preseason hints he may be on the move sooner rather than later and Bristol City are prepared to secure his services.

Konchesky played a huge role in a backline that cemented Leicester's place in the top flight of English football but it does not come as a surprise that his days at the club are numbered. A younger fullback is likely to be preferred now which certainly opens a door for Bristol City to make a move on the defender.

Bristol City seeking survival

Bristol City, winners of League One last season, are back in the Championship and manager Steve Cotterill is aiming to continue to help the club improve. After letting left-back Greg Cunningham joined Preston North End, Cotterill is in the market for a new fullback and the experience of Konchesky has not gone unnoticed. Cotterill believes Konchesky's bags of experience can help guide Bristol City to success in the future.

The former England man currently has one year left on his current Leicester deal but at 34, the club make be reluctant to sell while they can. The experience of Konchesky would without a doubt help Bristol City as they prepare for life in the second tier again.

Bristol City would mark Konchesky's eight different club over a long career and perhaps, a final challenge for the defender.
