Championship stalwarts Leeds United are facing a potential double transfer headache as their attempts to sign Anthony Limbombe and Mike Williamson have suffered setbacks.

Leeds have reportedly bid £1.5m to NEC Nijmegen for Limbombe, according to Voetbal International, as they look to beef up their options in the final third, following the acquisition of Brentford’s Stuart Dallas for £1.3m.

'Astronomical' fee

The Dutch club’s club director Bart Van Ingen however, has quashed any chance of the 21 year old winger leaving cheaply, saying it would take an ‘astronomical’ fee to prise him away from the Eredivisie.

Van Ingen said that they have ‘not accepted the offer’ from the Championship side for the Belgian and ‘do not intend to sell’ the player, who scored 14 goals and set up a further ten as NEC won the Eerste Divisie title to secure promotion back to the Dutch top flight.

Leeds have faced a further setback as it is understood that Brighton have joined the race to sign their centre back target Mike Williamson from Newcastle.

The 31-year old seems surplus to requirements following the Magpie’s signing of Congolese centre back Chancel Mbemba from Anderlecht, and Leeds were looking to add him to the squad.

Interest elsewhere

But Brighton, who are managed by Williamson's former manager Chris Hughton when the Seagulls boss was in the St James Park hotseat, are also looking to sign him to bolster their own squad.

Williamson is entering the last year of his contract on the North East, and his five and a half year spell at Newcastle is likely to come to an end.

Leeds are hoping to improve their squad following the 1-1 draw with Burnley at Elland Road last weekend, with Mirco Antenucci and Sam Vokes on the scoresheet as both sides had a share of the spoils.
