Birmingham City will be hoping to continue their positive start to the season when they welcome Derby County to St Andrews on Friday night.

Gary Rowett's side have made a solid start to the 2015/16 campaign, beginning with a 2-1 victory on the opening weekend of the season before their Capital One Cup success, again by the same scoreline, against League Two outfit Bristol Rovers at The Memorial Stadium.

Their unbeaten run was stretched further on Saturday with a 2-2 draw against Burnley at Turf Moor, thanks to goals from Arsenal loanee Jon Toral and full-back Paul Caddis.

As for Derby, they are also unbeaten but still remain without a victory in Paul Clement's debut managerial campaign. So far the Rams have played three and drawn three, starting off with a 0-0 stalemate away to Bolton Wanderers before back-to-back draws at the iPro Stadium to Charlton Athletic and Middlesbrough.

A disappointing performance in the League Cup saw them crash out to Paul Cook's Pompey side in a 2-1 defeat at Fratton Park at just the first hurdle of the competition.

From the team sheet

Blues skipper Michael Morrison is pushing for fitness for Friday night's game with the East Midlands side after missing several training sessions during the week.

However, the defender played the full 90 minutes in City's draw at Turf Moor on Saturday which gives him a slight chance of making the starting 11.

Rowett also has slight concerns about the fitness of Spanish midfielder Jon Toral who has also been absent from training this week. Toral, who is on a season long-loan from The Emirates, has been suffering from a tight hamstring making him unlikely to feature on Friday.

In the opposite corner, injury woes continue for Clement's Derby. During Tuesday's 1-1 with Middlesbrough, midfielders Jeff Hendrick and Jamie Hanson were substituted during the first half after suffering with a dead leg and concussion respectively, both players are expected to miss out.

Long-term absentee Will Hughes remains sidelined after suffering anterior cruciate ligament damage which will rule him out for a further six months while Scottish midfielder Craig Bryson is still a few weeks off full fitness after picking up a knee injury in the opening game of the season.

From the media

Rowett, who is set to line-up against his former club, has expressed his intent at further signings at the West Midlands side ahead of Friday's clash: "We're looking again to strengthen," he admitted. "We're looking to bring another in fairly soon, but they've got to be the right players."

The 43-year-old also spoke of the injury troubles to Morrison and Toral, saying: "Morrison and Toral had hamstring tightness, we're hopeful they will both train and hopefully they'll be available."

As for the Rams, former Real Madrid assistant Clement, has spoken of the positivity surrounding his side despite their winless record so far: "We've been unlucky in both home games this week not to pick up a few more points. However, we're positive and confident."

He also added: "I am positive about certain parts of our game. We need a bit more cutting edge - while at the back we're looking robust. It's been a busy week of preparing for the games and recovering from the previous match - but we'll be raring to go tomorrow."
