Nottingham Forest have confirmed that midfielder Henri Lansbury will stay at the club this summer.

The 24-year-old Forest midfielder had looked set for a move to Championship rivals Burnley, with the two sides in contact about a deal.

Lansbury agrees to stay

Lansbury has been linked with a move away from the City Ground all summer and after a fee was agreed he looked all set to go. However talks between Lansbury and Burnley broke down and the former Arsenal youngster talked with club chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi. Talks followed and Lansbury's place at Forest was confirmed until January at the very least.

A Forest statement said:  "The 24-year-old has declared his intention to stay following a conversation with Forest chairman Fawaz Al Hasawi. The club welcome Lansbury's decision and will now move forward with him in their plans."

The current Forest captain started off at Arsenal, whom he had been associated with since the age of eight, and had loan spells with Scunthorpe United, Watford, Norwich City and West Ham United before signing a four-year deal with Forest in August 2012 for £1million. Lansbury has gone on to make over 100 appearances for Forest and was confirmed as captain after injuries to the experienced pair of Chris Cohen and Andy Reid

Lansbury is poised to sign a new deal before the end of the transfer window to officially tie down his futute with Forest.

Difficult summer at the City Ground

Forest are facing a tough summer after being placed under a transfer embargo so keeping onto Lansbury is key to their successes this season. Forest have also warded off interest from West Brom and Derby County in star man Michail Antonio, who is keen to discuss his future after the club rejected offers of around £4million.

After signing Jamie Ward and Matt Mills, Forest boss Dougie Freedman can now start planning the season around his captain. Forest have started off the season with a 1-0 defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion, a 2-1 win at home to Rotherham United and a 0-0 draw at home to Charton Athletic.

If Forest can hold onto Antonio as well as Lansbury they could be all set for a better season than the previous one.
