Middlesbrough manager Aitor Karanka has revealed that he is 'not sure' if Albert Adomah will be involved in Saturday's trip to face Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough

The winger was completely left out of the squad that overcame Burton Albion in the League Cup on Tuesday evening, courtesy of Cristhian Stuani's brace.

Adomah's absence in the win over the Brewers was a talking point, which fueled speculation to whether he has had a falling out with Aitor Karanka.

Following the win at the Pirelli Stadium, Karanka refused to confirm or deny if Adomah will return to the squad for Saturday's trip to the Steel City.

Speaking on the situation of the 27-year-old Londoner, Karanka told the Gazette that it was his decision to leave Adomah out, saying that he believed the squad he took to Burton was "the best to win the game", as evidenced by the fact that Boro progressed to the next round.

Karanka said he would "see what happens" with regards Adomah, but insisted that he would "prefer to speak about the players who have [played] here today", noting that he was "proud" of his side's fightback - the first time Boro have come from behind to win in 12 months of football.

Adomah linked with a move away

Adomah, who 51 appearances last season, scoring six goals, has been heavily linked with a move away from the Riverside as the transfer window enters its final week.

Reports suggest that Adomah has not handed in a transfer request, but feels he can no longer play under the management of his Spanish boss.

Despite being rewarded with a new contract last season, for his fine form, relations between him and his manager have become strained.

However, Boro fans remain hopeful that the situation can be resolved with Adomah one of the terrace favourites at the club, especially with Karanka recently sending Adomah out to play with the captain's armband in a League Cup tie with Oldham Athletic.
