Brighton and Hove Albion struck early to help themselves on their way to a superb victory over Ipswich Town in an entertaining game in the Championship.

Kazenga Lua Lua and Tomer Hemed gave the visitors a two-goal lead within the first 12 minutes of the game but Ipswich clawed their way back level through Freddie Sears and David McGoldrick's penalty.

Brighton hit immediately back, however, with Hemed nodding in his second goal of the game to give the Seagulls a deserved win.

Quickfire double for Brighton

Ipswich almost had an early chance as Uwe Hünemeier's weak header back towards goal was almost seized upon by Sears, but the Tractor Boys were soon left to rue the missed opportunity as the visitors stunned the home support with two quick-fire goals.

First, with ten minutes on the clock, Lua Lua latched onto Gaetan Bong's through ball and finished incisively across the goalkeeper and inside the far post.

Then, just two minutes later, Brighton's lead was doubled in somewhat fortuitous circumstances. Midfielder Dale Stephens delivered a free kick from wide and the ball appeared to evade everyone as it dropped into the net, with Hemed claiming a minor touch.

Ipswich's defending was leaving a lot to be desired and the Seagulls were taking full advantage, though they arguably should have had a third with 25 minutes played. Again it was Bong with the pass but this time Sam Baldock made the run to pick up the loose ball, but his eventual finish was wide of goal with only the keeper to beat.

The visitors looked threatening every time they got the ball, especially on the break as their searing pace down the flanks pulled Ipswich apart whenever the ball was given away.

However, the Seagulls could well have been down to ten men near the end of the first half as Hünemeier, already on a booking, delivered a heavy challenge on Ryan Fraser which looked more deserving of a yellow than the tackle which had initially seen his name taken by the referee.

Ipswich hit back through Sears

On the stroke of the interval, Ipswich almost found their way back into the game through their dangerman Sears. A routine straight from the training pitch was worked from a corner to the edge of the box, but the former West Ham man fired his eventual shot wide.

Soon after half time, however, Sears had his goal. Minutes after a good penalty appeal was turned down as Lewis Dunk appeared to handle in the area, Sears played the ball through for Brett Pitman to cut inside and shoot and while his effort from a tight angle cannonned back off the upright, Sears was perfectly placed to turn in the rebound.

McGoldrick levels, Hemed restores the lead

The home fans were back behind their team in fine voice by now and soon they had pulled back an equaliser with an improved second-half performance. Bruno felled Fraser clumsily inside the area and the referee didn't hesitate in awarding a penalty, which McGoldrick dispatched into the bottom left corner.

The lead didn't last. Brighton's two goalscorers combined to restore their advantage two minutes later, Lua Lua's attempted cross deflecting kindly towards Hemed to convert with a simple header.

Brighton hold on to win

Unsurprisingly, Ipswich attempted to hit back but Brighton's continued threat on the break made for an entertaining spectacle, the visitors also introducing Bobby Zamora from the bench for his second Seagulls debut.

However, while the final 20 minutes of the game brought opportunities for both sides, Brighton managed to hold on to an impressive three points.

The result leaves them with 13 points out of 15 from their first five games of the season, with Ipswich remaining in the play-off spots after their first league defeat of the season.
