Nottingham Forest have seemingly fended off competition from a host of fellow Championship clubs to land Crystal Palace playmaker Jonathan Williams on loan until January.

The 21-year-old, who spent most of last season on loan at Ipswich Town, had caught the eye of Wolverhampton WanderersFulham, and Bristol City, but it's highly likely he will reunite with former Palace boss Dougie Freedman - who gave the Welshman his debut at Selhurst Park.

With Michail Antonio set to join West Ham United in a £7m move, Forest urgently need to replace the wideman's creativity, and will hope Williams can go some way to solving that issue.

Williams, who stands at 5ft 7in, is affectionately known as 'Joniesta' due to his playmaking efforts and is equally as adept playing in midfield as he is on the wing or in a number 10 role.

Hectic end to the window

In what will be seen as uncharacteristic due to previous inacitivity on transfer deadline day, Forest will be rushing around trying to complete deals before the 6pm cut-off point.

Brighton and Hove Albion striker Chris O'Grady is another loan deal that Freedman is chasing, while another forward - in the form of Leeds United's Souleymane Doukara is apparently set to complete a medical later today.

French side Lille also confirmed via their club website that Ryan Mendes has joined the Trentside outfit on loan, however there - as of yet - has been no confirmation from Nottingham.

Outgoings from the City Ground?

It also seems likely that Michael Mancienne will remain at The City Ground despite a £2m bid from Fulham, with the Reds holding firm on a £2.5m price tag that the Cottagers don't seem keen to meet.

One player's future that remains uncertain however is Jamie Paterson, who is seen as a potential replacement for Jacob Butterfield by Huddersfield Town, who seem set to lose their star man to Derby County for £4m.

It was initially thought that Paterson would stay after interest from Charlton Athletic was rebuffed, however the forward is on his way to Huddersfield for talks over a potential loan move to the Terriers according to the Nottingham Post.
