Cardiff City continued their unbeaten start to the Championship season, as goals in the final 25 minutes from Anthony Pilkington and Joe Mason saw off struggling Huddersfield Town.

Huddersfield set up not to lose the game and that told throughout the early stages, as they kept hold of the ball without posing too much threat.

Cardiff looked very sluggish in the early stages, in the previous five games their high pressing game deserted them, there was no urgency.

The first 25 minutes went by with no clear-cut chances created by either side.

Lucky escape

The visitors created the first half chance when Sean Scannell then found space to run clear on the right. Fábio was on hand to turn his dangerous, low cross away from danger.

The Bluebirds came closest shortly after the break when Kenwyne Jones latched on to a Joe Ralls pass, turning Joel Lynch superbly, before he fired his effort straight at Steer.

Peter Whittingham was then next to trouble the Terriers, as his effort from twenty-five yards flew just wide. Cardiff slowly started to turn up the pressure on the away side.

The opening goal

It was Cardiff who eventually broke the deadlock, the newly introduced Sammy Ameobi broke clear, he played in Pilkington who received the ball with his back to goal, before turning and firing low into the near corner.

Lead doubled

Once the deadlock was broken, Cardiff's tails went up, the goal which settled things came 8 minutes later as Mason latched on to another Ralls pass, rounding Steer and hitting home from a tight angle to make it 2-0. 

Cardiff closed the game out as they remain one of four unbeaten sides in the Championship and sit proudly in 2nd place.

Verdict

As previously said, Cardiff started very in a very sluggish manner, however once Ameobi was introduced the game came to life. Ameobi offered the energy and flair Cardiff lacked in the first half. There was a very impressive performances from Kagisho Dikgacoi who controlled the midfield and the previously mentioned Ameobi. 

As for Huddersfield, they remain winless as their early season struggles are getting enhanced every week. Their passing was fluent in the first half but they didn't put Cardiff under any pressure as the creative and finishing touches lack througout the 90 minutes,
