Sheffield Wednesday look poised to offer striker Aatdhe Nuhiu a new contract to keep the former Austrian under 21 international at Hillsborough.

The six foot four target man is out of contract this summer, and according to HITC Sport, a close source to the club is aware that a new deal will be put on the table for Nuhiu in the near future.

Now entering his third season at Wednesday, Nuhiu has been at the South Yorkshire outfit since the summer of 2013, arriving from Austrian side Rapid Wien.

Nuhiu was Wednesday’s top scorer last term, notching 11 goals in all competitions. His tally of 11 last year was a three goal improvement after the front man netted eight goals in his first season.

With the arrival of new boss Carlos Carvalhal, Nuhiu was seen as a player that may be moved on, especially after the new Owl’s coach brought in two forwards of his own in Marco Matias and Lucas Joao.

However his performances have impressed Carvalhal, which has resulted in the 26 year old being a regular fixture in the Wednesday starting line up. Nuhiu has began the season with three goals in 11 appearances in all competitions.

A good start for Wednesday

Wednesday have started the season fairly well, currently sitting 10th in the table with 15 points, and are only three points away from 6th placed Burnley, who occupy the last playoff spot.

Nuhiu’s performances since the start of the season have contributed to Wednesday’s good start to the campaign, which has prompted the Owl’s management to swiftly prepare a new deal for the Albanian born hit man.

Clubs are reportedly already showing interest in Nuhiu, and so Wednesday will be hoping to tie up Nuhiu to a new contract as soon as possible.

Wednesday’s next match is after the international break at home to Hull City. The Owl’s will be hoping that by then, Nuhiu will be tied down to a new contract.
